Editing Wikipedia – College Student Alcoholism
On a previous assignment when we had to find a page on our public issue from Wikipedia, I failed to find any pages with any kind of substantial amount of text or information that was useful on my subject. So when we were given this assignment, I knew I could give some “meat” to one of these pages related to my topic. For this assignment I chose the edit the page title, “College student alcoholism”. Before editing the page I viewed the “talk” page where there was no comments or posts on this page, so I went right into editing. At first, the text and the codes looked a little daunting, but the help tab and the previous author’s text gave enough me enough examples and information to edit the page effectively. Before, this page contained only 176 words and 4 sections. After my editing, there was over 500 words and 5 sections. In addition I added an extra reference to the wiki and did some minor editing to the original author’s text along with some additional sentences to the introduction paragraph. In my editing I formatted my contribution of the wiki to look identical to the way the wiki was previously structured and organized.
The information I added was related to the consequences college alcoholism poses on students. I also made a large contribution to the “Factors” section, where I included information on peer pressure and binge drinking that was not previously there. When I checked back the next day, it seemed that my contribution was effective enough to have stuck with this Wikipedia page. This was a rather fun assignment, because now I feel like I made a positive contribution to the internet.

I think you made some great contributions to the Wikipedia page you edited. It seems to me that prior to the edits you made, this was a very sparse article with only some basic information and no real in depth coverage on the issue.
The sentences you added at the end of the intro paragraph definitely contribute to giving a good overview of the topic.
You did a great job expanding the factors section. There was practically no information in this section prior to your edits and you did a great job at making it a very substantial section.
I also like the addition of the consequences section. You added a lot of interesting statistics and fact that definitely make the article much more informative. I think the fact that you also provided the citation for these facts will cause this edit to stick.
