Inflammatory Bowel Disease Wikipedia Page
After taking time to read the Wikipedia page focused on IBD, I decided that I wanted to edit the Prognosis section about IBD. Given that the focus of my website has been on “Empowering and Inspiring College Students with IBD” I wanted to write that it was possible to live a normal life with IBD. I wanted the tone of my message to be inspirational, and also direct individuals to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) for further information and assistance.
I decided to touch upon the notion that you can lead a normal life with IBD despite the challenges that it may present. After taking careful consideration of the layout of the Wikipedia page, I decided to put it at the end of the Prognosis section. I wanted to end that section with inspiration that live can go on as normal.
In my post, I acknowledged the reality, “Life with IBD can be challenging.” However, I continued to say, “Patients with IBD can go to college, hold a normal job, get married, have children, etc.” For those who are newly diagnosed, or lack a true understanding of IBD it can often be though that IBD impedes all aspects of a normal life, and that just isn’t true.

I ended my post directing individuals to CCFA, as I truly believe the foundation is a powerful organization aimed at improving the lives of all those affected by IBD. My work this semester has been aimed at advocacy for IBD. I believe incorporating that into the Wikipedia post aligns with my mission and the mission of CCFA.
