Reading evidence of our “cognitive surplus”
For this week, begin by reading the first chapter of Clay Shirky’s Cognitive Surplus, “Gin, Television and the Cognitive Surplus” (available on CourseWeb).
Then spend at least 30min reading articles related to your public issue on Wikipedia.
Then spend at least 30min reading campaigns on IndieGoGo and Kickstarter. Read stuff that’s related to your public issue or to the public interest generally, if you can.
Finally, compose a ~250 word blog post discussing what you read, what made for successful appeals on the fundraising sites, and how this is connected to our “cognitive surplus.” Link to at least one project and one Wikipedia entry that you found interesting.
