Starvation in Africia
Africa is the world’s poorest continent, and also the one with the scarcest food and water resources. This extremely disturbing photo was taken by Kevin Carter, who won a Pulitzer prize for this photo. To capture this photo of the child and the vulture, Carter had to readjust his lenses and angles for 20 mins as required by his profession. Taking this picture disturbed the author so much that he sadly enough committed suicide 3 months after receiving his Pulitzer Prize. This picture, which was actually taken 20 years ago is still very relevant today and is used by many human rights campaigns. Unfortunately one can still go to Africa, or more specifically Sudan, where this photo was taken, and see the exact same images.
Here as you can see a vulture stands by and waits for a starving African child to die so it can eat. This photo is extremely moving to me when i saw it on twitter a few weeks ago. This image got burned into my brian and this was the first thing i thought of when i saw we had to do a visual assignment.
Many organizations that send aid to Africa use powerful images like this to move people into donating and helping the cause. The problem of food and water shortage in Africa is a growing issue still to this day despite all the efforts many people have done so far. If this moves you like it does me then there are plenty of websites you can find online to help the cause of starvation in Africa, like the Red Cross.
