A Quest for a Cure
Who knew eating yogurt could have an impact on the lives of those affected by breast cancer? Yoplait’s campaign “Save Lids to Save Lives” has been around for fifteen years. Breast cancer continues to to affect one in eight women in the United States. The numbers continue to increase and as there is no cure, Yoplait acknowledges the importance of being a part of this fight. The pathos of the visual ad wasn’t hard to acknowledge.
Breast cancer is a devastating disease, and unfortunately as the United States has 250,000 new cases in a year, many people know someone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. “Save Lids to Save Lives” is a touching cause that can easily relate to the emotions of many. The audience is diverse, although all those who can relate to this campaign are supporting the fight to end breast cancer.
Yoplait is an established company. The ethos of the company is not questioned, especially as the campaign started when a Yoplait employee lost a family member and wanted to do something to make an impact. as it is for profit company, this non-profit initiative adds credibility to their company.
The visual design is pink which ties into the fact that breast cancer awareness and other breast cancer campaigns are pink. The font is soft and easy to read/look at. The design is more feminine which is understandable as breast cancer affects women. This visual ad is in commercials, print ads, and online. Many have come across this ad at some point. The awareness ribbon is white and adds a nice contrast to the pink.
The logos of the ad is tied into the background of the employee who started it. However the brand, Yoplait, is clearly visible in the add. This is additional publicity for their company. In addition, it is positive publicity as it shows that they are taking time to for a great cause which could help increase sales.
I think Yoplait is doing a great thing for a great cause. I wonder when it first started if they thought they would still have the campaign fifteen years later? In addition, I wonder what financial gains the company has noticed as they relate their product to a wonderful initiative. What are your thoughts?
