Update: Child Obesity Research

Due to the fact that child obesity rates have doubled in the past three decades, there are many resources regarding information on the topic.  Statistics, figures, and facts are not hard to find at all.  What is hard to find though, are recent stories related to child obesity.  It isn’t hard to figure out why child obesity is bad.  Everyone knows the negatives health effects that come along with it.  However, it would be helpful to have an example from something in the news that reports how child obesity effected a specific child.

Another problem I’ve run into is defining child obesity.  Different sites/organizations have various ideas for what makes a child obese versus non obese.  Some say it is having twenty percent body fat, while others say only a doctor can determine it by measuring height and weight and then cross referencing those numbers with a body mass index chart.  Age of the child is also an issue.  It is not hard to look at someone and determine if they are unhealthy based on their weight.  Because of this, having an exact dividing line is not completely necessary for the purposes of my research.  However, since child obesity is my public issue, it would be nice to be able to provide a concrete definition for the word.
