Kids Reaction to Home Depot Proposal
While looking for a topic on a social issue, I was browsing YouTube and I came across a video called Kids Reaction to Gay Marriage. Wasn’t sure if I planned on further addressing the sensitive subject for class but I watched it and decided to posted it on Twitter.
I have to say it was quite funny and actually really makes you think about how age and generations change some views on social issues. And I mean lets just say they were definitely cute.
In the first few minutes they open with a paragraph stating what the video will discuss and tells you how the video gives you “valuable insight” on where we are with the issue and where we might be going. The producers individually show a group of kids a video of a marriage proposal at Home Depot that went viral on the internet. Which happened to be two men. Intriguing.
What was the kids reaction?
After explaining to the younger kids what the word “gay” actually meant, they initially were confused, shocked, and some of the older ones were actually supportive. “Why is a man proposing to a man?” said by one kid. For being so young and not having much knowledge of the topic prior, they did have the general concept of the apposing sides of the issue and all seemed to agree on the one thing. Love is Love.
Yes, they were just kids but kids have a lot more valuable things to say than we think. I think you can definitely learn from the younger generation because they are more in tune with the present which gives us (like the video stated) insight into where our society currently stands.
By discussing this and other issues more openly will make us feel less discomfort and will give us hope for a better tomorrow.
