Wikipedia Edit on Ebola Virus Epidemic in West Africa
While searching the term “Ebola” I found a few different Wikipedia articles that focused on the subject. The first page I encountered was a broad overview on the virus, which then led me to other articles focusing on different aspects of the subject. One of the page’s subtopics featured a link to another Wikipedia article, “Ebola Virus Epidemic in West Africa
.” Since the page was more cohesive with my own blog, I felt more knowledgeable on the subject and I believed I could make a more substantive edit.
As I read the page, I found that all the information was highly accurate and detailed. It posed a challenge for me, making it more difficult to decide what exactly to add/edit. I resolved it would be best to focus on updating its information. I wanted to specifically add the news updates about the new Ebola infected patient in Italy, but noticed it had already been altered. The information was quickly added, demonstrating how quickly the editors work to ensure the page’s accuracy. I opted to make the information more detailed. Specifically, in the Italy section I included more information about the Italian patient and the location he contracted the disease. I also made a second edit that touched on W.H.O.’s projection on the contentment deadline.
Along with the new added information, I wrote in the HTML for its citations. Due to my prior experience with Wikipedia, I am certain that if it were not for the credible sources, my information would have been deleted. After a week went by, the post has “stuck” and I think it has secured its position on the page.
