Online Privacy Wiki Page Edit

I decided to edit the Wikipedia page about social networking services. I focused on the section about privacy issues involving social media. They briefly addressed the controversy of informed consent online. The original post has a few sentences about this topic.

Using the research form my position paper, I thought including an example where informed consent was questionably violated would help to clarify the definition provided by Wikipedia. I added a short description of the controversial study done by Facebook in 2012 where Facebook did not inform its users that they would be the subjects of a study to test the transmittablity of emotional states via social networks. Because they did not ask permission of their users, it is questionable as to whether or not consent was informed. After my addition, this is what the page looked like.

I found editing Wikipedia to be fairly simple and not overly challenging. The biggest difficulty I faced was figuring out how to cite my information, but after a little research I found the process to be pretty straight forward. As of 10 minutes after my edit, it still remains on the page so hopefully it will continue to stick. I learned a lot about Wikipedia through this process. I have always been taught in school that Wikipedia is not a reliable source, but this experience has definitely changed my point of view. I think that Wikipedia is a really good source of information, especially if you need a quick overview of a topic.
