NEWater Wikipedia Edits

The Wikipedia editing process was a really cool way for me to share my knowledge with a target audience. Only people searching for NEWater will see the content on the page which narrows the audience and allows there to be varying levels of detail on the topic. NEWater is the name Singapore has given its recycled wastewater. I made three changes to the page which was previously listed as having multiple issues with sources and information.

The first change was to find a source for a fact lacking a citation. I was able to find a credible history of Malaysian-Singapore Water agreements with the fact included on the page

The second edit I made was to add information about the visitor center. I chose to add this information because I think it is important for people to know what types of educational tools Singapore is using.

The final change I made was to add information about the water’s quality. The previous section was lacking substantial information about why the water is okay to drink. I found a table that compared the quality of NEWater to the US EPA and WHO standards.

Additionally, here are the references I added.

One thing I disliked about the editing process was the interface used to enter the information. It was somewhat difficult and it would prevent me from editing pages on a regular basis. I also think it would deter individuals who know a lot about a topic but are not comfortable with computer coding and language. Overall this experience made me think about what goes into a Wikipedia post and how contributing back to the web is not as difficult as i initially thought.
