Editing the Dyslexia Wikipedia Page

One of the things I found interesting when researching my issue was the evidence against a common misconception about dyslexia. It is often assumed that more boys than girls have dyslexia. I made a post about this assumption on my own wordpress site. Research has concluded that the number of boys and girls with dyslexia is an approximately equal number, the only variance depends on which gender is more likely to be diagnosed. The false assumption that more boys have dyslexia has been proven untrue, yet the Wikipedia article does not acknowledge this nor does it mention any correlation between gender and diagnosis.

The page I chose to edit is titled ‘Dyslexia.’ I added text about how the number of girls and boys with dyslexia are equal in number though people tend to think otherwise. The edits are shown below.

The screenshot reflecting my revisions is blurry, but here you can see what I added. The edit about gender and diagnosis is highlighted in yellow.

The change did not last for long, though I did make sure to include my reference (The Yale Dyslexia site). I assume that the invisible Wikipedia elves make sure that they stay on top of all the edits the site experiences, considering that people tend to edit things just for fun or to impose their own opinion. Maybe my input didn’t have enough backup, or I put it in the wrong section, or wrote badly, who knows, but the edit only lasted for a little while.

This is the first time I have edited Wikipedia, though it was essentially exactly what I expected. Even though the change I instituted was factual, it seems like Wikipedia does have pretty high standards and tends to have accurate and neutral information and obviously tries to ensure the validity and truth of the information published on the site.
