Infographics and their visual appeal

Out of the links that professor Vee shared with us, the first one, titled “The world as 100 people”, really stuck out to me the most.  Here there was a pie chart broken into different sections for categories such as religion, social status, and lifestyle. It really just surprised me on some of the statistics that this infographic displayed.  It’s most effective aspect was that the entire image was a large pie chart that was easy to follow and very clear what the graphic was displaying.

I found my infographic off a website called stumbleupon that often shares a lot of very interesting web links.  This infographic displays highest grossing movies back in 2010.  I chose this one because I felt it had a unique way to display its information to the viewer.  As one can see, the highest grossing movies are put on top during the week they were released and flow along the chart according to its continual net income over the next months compared to other movies.  I think this chart is very visually appealing because of the colors the chart uses and how it has the biggest movies stick out the most which is the most important information. Another important part of this web infographic is the fact that it has a scroll over option.  When the user scrolls over a movie, in the top left corner the title of the movie will be displayed in addition to the total amount of income the movie made that year.
