Marriage and Self-Esteem

Marriage and Self-Esteem

For my first blog post, I choose the one regarding cohabitation and divorce. In this the writer sounds witty and intelligent, throwing our facts and statistics but not judging those who do live together or finding fault with them. She is laying out the numbers while adding some personality, asking questions and adding tidbits such as “Apparently Americans are undeterred by the fact that laws against “living in sin” are technically still in place in Florida, Michigan and Mississippi” (Chalabi). The post interacts with other people through referencing the work of professors and researchers, including those from Cornell and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro as well as research affiliated with the Center for Disease Control. There are links to these people and the organizations, allowing readers to connect and find even more information. The post is structured by small paragraphs and a graph. It begins with some statistics and technicalities, followed by some history and then other factors that could be involved with the link between cohabitation and divorce. It ends with a summary of the information, stating that while cohabitation before marriage is more likely to result in divorce there could be other factors as well.

For my second blog post, I found a blog called the Positivity Blog, all about self-image. In this blog, the writer has a very personal style. He remarks how his life has been happier because he loves himself and has a healthy self-esteem, making him relatable because it appears he has gone through some tough experiences like the rest of the readers out there. The post interacts with other people through the writer sharing his favorite quotes with readers. It allows the readers to get to know the writer on a deeper level, as well as share the information more easily. Remembering just one of the quotes can allow the reader to tweet, post, or tell someone else about it. This post is structured in lists and short paragraphs, beginning with a general statement about loving oneself.  The writer then asks the readers why this is important and proceeds to tell them the reason why, ultimately going on to his list of fifty-three favorite quotes. It ends with him asking readers to share their favorite quote, once again bringing back the interaction between reader and writer.
