I watched “being married is like having a colored television set.” The audio opens with a man with a strong Italian accent telling the story about how he proposed to his wife, and the next morning called her to ask if she changed her mind. He said he calls her at that time every year to ask her the same question. She says he writes her a love letter every day. According to him, it’s to remind her that “as dumpy as I am, it’s coming from me” – like hearing a good song from a busty radio. He says being “married is like having a colored television set, you never wanna go back to black and white.”

After a music break, the couple starts talking about the fast spreading cancer that Danny the husband has. He said they try to give each other hope, not that he’ll live, but that Annie will do well after he passes. He doesn’t’ want to come to terms with dying, he only needs to come to terms with the fact that his love is as much as it will be eternally.

He wrote her a letter saying that the love they have is what sustains them through this time. He says he could write on and on about her. In his heart that there has never been, is not now, and never will be a woman like “Annie.”

After another break, Annie says this year would have been their 35 wedding anniversary. After he died, she received 15,000 letters of condolences from all over the world. She read one a day because Danny wrote her a love letter every day. People say she must miss Danny terribly She says no it was an honor to be married to him so it’s not terrible.

This audio was very touching. The strong Italian accent of Danny draws the listener in as he jokingly tells the story of how he proposed to his wife Annie. I felt a connection with the couple, so after the music break I was very saddened by the fact that Danny had a terminal illness. However, hearing the couple speak of how deep their love was raised my spirits again. Annie’s decision to celebrate his life and the love they had after he passed away felt so genuine and hopeful.

I liked the pauses between the audio. However, I wasn’t a big fan of the music. I did enjoy how the audio was basically a conversation between the couple telling their love story, as opposed to an interview with a third party.
