Ebola Outbreak in Texas

After scanning through the Washington Post website, I noticed that a big concern of the readers as the paper sees it is news about the Ebola virus outbreak in Dallas, Texas. The headline stood out to me because there were also a few sub-headlines associated with it, all pretty much related to the same event. It’s obvious that many people are anxious about the man in Texas who contracted the Ebola virus, making it a prevalent issue in news headlines. After reading the Washington Post article, Ebola patient was allowed to leave Dallas hospital last week, I learned that the man was Liberian and is the first man to be diagnosed with Ebola in America. His name, learned through his friends, is Thomas Eric Duncan. According to public health officials, they are able to contain the virus and prevent it from spreading further.

I found a twitter alert account called Ebola Alert. Most of the tweets consist of updates, exclusive reports, and any general news regarding the Ebola virus issue on a national level. I also discovered another report from CNN, detailing the traveling history of Duncan. The video that is included in the CNN report reveals that officials are attempting to identify anyone who may have been in contact with the man infected.

Later, I read another article on USA Today that informed me that a second person has possibly been infected by Ebola. This person, who was not named in the article, supposedly had close contact with Duncan, the first man infected. It was interesting to come across this article after reading the initial article I found because in the first one, public health officials informed the readers that the virus was completely containable. Now, it is apparent to see that the virus can be easily contracted. This makes it a very pressing issue in the news. After learning more, I understand why there were many headlines for Ebola in the news raising awareness for people’s health.

Lastly, I found a photo from another Washington Post article that I think most accurately represents the issue.
