Rhetorical Velocity on Twitter
I chose one of Aerie’s tweets as an example. The tweet was: Today’s #WednesdayWisdom is by the beautiful @khloekardashian! #AerieREAL. The tweet also had a picture attached:
I think tweet has a high potential for rhetorical velocity because it not only introduces a quote in a visual sense, but it also brings forth input from a popular celebrity with a big presence in the media. It has the potential to be effective in the media because of the ethos associated with the author of the quote. Khole Kardashian has been scrutinized by the media at numerous occasions because of the way she looks. She has more of a full figure and she is also very tall. The fact that she is spreading a positive message about body image is trusted because she has had a lot of experience with the subject by being a central figure of reality television and tabloids.
The second tweet that I believe has a high rhetorical velocity was one from Emerge. The tweet consisted of: New Blog | Photoshop and the false world we’ve created as a society… #bodyimage#photoshop . It also linked to the blog: http://blog.emergebodyimage.com/post/Photoshop-Fix-ortunity and included this picture.
This tweet includes hashtags, a picture and a link. It gives the audience a greater potential to recompose the message in a variety of different ways. The tweet is also enticing because of the way the photo relates to the subject being discussed. The picture interests the reader and compels them to click the link and read the blog to learn more. People are then able to share the picture and/or link in their own unique way.
The tweets that I composed also have a high potential for rhetorical velocity because I included additional types of media to my tweets. Most links were to Youtube videos that shed some light to body images perceptions in the media. My tweets have a great potential to be recomposed through various media outlets. Whether the video is clipped or recomposed in a similar way, I think there is a high potential for comments, feedback and shares on social media. I also tried to incorporate hashtags in my tweets to increase views. The links are all included below.

I really like the link to the evolution video! The video definitely has a high rhetorical velocity because I know it has circulated through social media before. Showing the actual Photoshop changes that models go through proves that society has a created this unattainable image of beauty for young women. We don’t even notice how often we come across billboards with these falsely beautiful women which can subconsciously impact our own self image. The video uncovers a part of the modeling world which is something that hasn’t often been done before. The video creatively sends a simple and clear message to its viewers which is why its rhetorical velocity was so high.
