Care for IBD
I recently posted about a research initiative that the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) has been working on. In my research I have been searching for outlets that patients will find to be beneficial as I create my site. I identified four key areas that I would like to focus on throughout the semester for my website. These areas are focused on education, managing his/her disease, connection with the IBD community, and advocacy efforts.
Patients and those affected are looking for reliable validated sources to learn. There is so much available on the Internet that is important that patients have access to valid information. In addition, patients want to feel like they can manage their disease. As the disease is chronic and unpredictable there are many different strategies available to cope with the. The website will provide diet/exercise/stress relief and other tips for patients and their families. Patients want confidence that they are not alone. This website should aim to serve as a platform to connect the IBD community. Finally, when patients feel comfortable with their disease they want to be advocates themselves.
As I continue to research, develop this topic, I am curious about the general populations understanding of IBD and the role that plays for patients and their families. I would like to learn how much the general public knows about IBD and build off that to help educate them further.
