The NY Yankees’ Recent Reality Check

The blog post I chose to discuss is from Pinstripe Alley, a New York Yankees specific blog. Its parent website is sbnation.com, a mass blog site that hosts hundreds of individual sports or sports team related blogs. This blog was an informative post about the Yankees’ fall from being the best team in the league as a result of their dwindling financial power. It was written by Doug Hall. Here is the link to the blog: http://www.pinstripealley.com/2014/10/17/6977271/yankees-free-agency-strategy-changes

Hall actually refrains from adding his personal touch until the very end of the blog post. He sticks to a more informative and objective tone because his purpose is simply to educate the Yankee fans on what is going with the Bombers financially. At the end of his post, however, Hall displays his Yankee-fan side when he says, “I remain hopeful that they will leverage their financial strengths in a much more efficient manner.” Clearly Hall is an optimistic Yankees fan, although he spends the majority of the post in an informative stance.

The post’s primary form of interaction with other sites and people is hyperlinking the teams and baseball players he mentions. Each player he discusses has their own hyperlink to their bio on sbnation.com. Each team he discusses has the same. Hall does not interact with any other articles or videos, but he makes sure that when he mentions a player or team, you have the tools available to be informed about the player or team.

The post keeps my attention with its simplicity. Usually, financial matters in the sports world are outrageously confusing and complex. There are endless rules set forth by all of the leagues. Hall, on the other hand, makes sure the reader can follow his post with ease, and he does so by employing bold headings with concise paragraphs to follow. He tells us that he will go through the Yankees future plan to acquire players in regard to the Yankees’ finances. He then lays out four areas that need attention: free agency, international free agency, TV contracts, and revenue sharing. He explanation under each is kept concise so any reader can understand the content.

The post begins with a brief description on how the Yankees have fell from prominence due to all of the new financial restrictions set on Major League Baseball. He ends the post with an optimistic statement about how he believes the Yankees are on the right track to adjust to the restrictions. This is essential to his post because it adds an optimistic Yankee fan tone, and that is the main audience of the blog. Any post going up on this NY Yankees blog must view the Yankees in a positive light. His conclusion does just that.
