Celebrating the Life of Alexis D’Luna

Alexis

The audio I listened to was about Alexis D’Luna. Alexis had a rare genetic condition called CHARGE syndrome. As a result, she had many complications including being intellectually disabled and legally blind. Alexis died in her sleep due to complications from CHARGE syndrome. The audio discusses the impact Alexis had on her family’s life.

The story began with Alexis’s father, mother, and sister talking about Alexis’s daily routine. It paints a snapshot of what Alexis was like specifically highlighting or charismatic and curious personality. Hearing her family talk about her, and celebrate her passion for life was so inspiring and heartwarming. It is easy to listen to over and over again just as it is a moving piece and you can feel the emotions from her family members.

The latter half of the audio story focuses on Alexis’s death. The account from her father about her death is captivating and it allows those listening to feel as though they are in that time and place. Her father describes finding Alexis in bed only to discover she had passed away in her sleep. He notes the feelings he had when he had to call her sister two weeks before her wedding to let her know what happened. Her sister discusses how happy she was to have seen her in the bridesmaid dress prior to her passing. That example alone shows just how devastating the loss was to the family.

The audio is conversational. You can hear the interviewer ask questions. It is casual and easy to follow. It doesn’t feel forced, and the reality of the reflection from her family is touching. There is great use of short sentences. The inflection changes significantly as the audio goes from describing Alexis’s personality to discussing the circumstances surrounding her death. The tone becomes a lot more somber and serious.

At the end of the audio there is music to conclude the audio story. The music is soft, relaxing, yet beautiful, to listen to. It is quite appropriate as the story was celebrating Alexis’s life. The audio itself is a soft yet gentle way to conclude the story.

The audio brings a whirlwind of emotions and keeps the audience listening. In addition, it is so special to hear her family talk about Alexis the way they do. It was an informative and beautiful story that was well put together.
