Blog post on Visual Arguments, due 9/21 11:59pm

The blog assignment for this week will help to prepare you to think about visual arguments, which we’ll be talking about in class on 9/23.

1) Find a visual argument about a public issue. It could include text, but it should be focused on the image, not the text. It has to be available online so you can do #2. It can’t be an ad for a commercial product. (But it could be an ad for a public-issue organization or it could be a fake ad, like the CoverGirl/NFL satire that we talked about in class.)

2) Link to it and also give a little image thumbnail of it in your post.

3) Write about what’s going on in the image from a rhetorical standpoint as well as a design standpoint. Use rhetorical terms like ethos, pathos, logos, exigence, audience from the Bowden & Scott reading. Also try to use design terms like emphasis, repetition, juxtaposition, color, font, alignment from the upcoming readings on visual design (available on CW). You don’t have to use all of those terms, of course, but use some of them to help you analyze what’s going on in the image.

Comments are optional this week, but highly encouraged! Please at least look at and read through some of your classmates’ posts so that we can discuss on Tuesday.
