Marijuana Legalization Progress Update
Initially I had planned on trying to cover both the medical and economic aspects of marijuana legalization. I wasn’t sure if this would be too broad and I should focus on only one of those sides of the issue. If I had to pick between the two I would probably go with the medical aspects. There are so many studies going on that are linking marijuana to all kinds of medical benefits. There is even evidence that marijuana usage can reverse the effects of cigarette smoking and improve lung health! I don’t want to lose the economic benefits it can also provide though, so I was thinking about including some information on it with the focus of my research mainly on medicinal benefits. I am hoping that this isn’t too broad of a focus for my research.
I am thinking that I will make the audience of the site college age and young adults in the United States since they are who have the most influence with the legalization movements. They also make up the majority of the population who would benefit from the legalization.
I think you have a great idea about making your research focused mainly on the medical effects of Marijuana. I believe this will be more appealing to the audience because most people are more concerned about how something will harm or benefit themselves, rather than how it will affect the economy and/or tax revenues. I also think making the audience of your topic college students and young adults will also greatly increase the attentiveness of the readers, as like you said will most likely be the ones pushing for the legalization. Doing some quick research myself it also looks like Marijuana is possibly linked to helping prevent brain cancer too if you were not aware!
I think focusing on the medical effects of Marijuana will be very interesting. I know you said you came across a lot of studies that advocate the positives of medical marijuana, but have you found any that show the potential negative side effects of Marijuana use (if any exist)?
I would find it difficult to navigate this topic because there are supporting studies for each argument. I think advocating for legalization and including potential negatives will increase your credibility on the topic. Even if it is just footnotes or short negative statements spun in a more positive light, your argument could definitely be strengthened by including the information.
