Update on Self-Image Research
As I have been conducting research on self-image, I have found endless options of articles with information to use. So many people feel the same way I do, which is that many forms of media, including social media, are causing young adults to be unhappy with who they are due to what they are comparing themselves to—perfect, unrealistic, and often photo shopped images. This is great for me, because it gives me a wide variety of resources to use. These articles may all be about media negatively effecting self-image, but they have a very wide range of information. It would be impossible for me to include it all in my website. Seeing that it is all very compelling material, I find it hard to separate what is useful to my website from what is interesting but diverges too far from my social issue topic. This is something I will have to be careful about when writing for this class. Although I may like what an article has to say, I need to be selective when choosing what will ultimately benefit my website.
I can relate with your topic about self-image. I’m sure every female has gone through wanting to be like the girls on television or in the magazines. Growing up in this generation social media distorts female’s self image to be negative if you don’t have the right clothes, hair, or body and its a problem. It’s great you found a lot of information on this topic, I didn’t know there was information out there. I’m also having the same issue with trying to condense my information and decide what fits and what won’t. I thought maybe pick a couple subtopics for your website and base your information off of those so that it wont be so broad. I’m just throwing something out there. I’m struggling myself.
