Rikki’s Introduction

posted in: Introductions | 0

Hi everyone! My name is Rikki Li, and I’m a senior here at Pitt studying English Writing and Psychology. For lack of a better way to introduce myself, I’ll provide below an ingredients list of the things I think I’m made of:

Ingredients: water, carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, phosphorus, stardust, adenosine triphosphate, iridescent misery, black holes, plastic wrap, entropic tendency, loose pens, white rice, polyester fiber, stop signs, hellfire, Colgate toothpaste, constellations, plasma cells, Honey Nut Cheerios, histamines, summer rain, window panes, double-sided tape, horoscopes, Post-it notes, silver spoons, Lactobacillus, dragon blood, roman candles, grocery runs, cotton sheets, cowardice, fearlessness, unfinished manuscripts, thanatophobia, ampersands, ocean dreams, radio silence,  apple trees, lip cream (rosewood suede), dissatisfaction (to help preserve flavor), contains 2% or less of: cleavage, apologetic retribution, matching socks, time management, and yellow #5.

I’m interested in digital media mainly because I want to learn other ways to tell stories. As I learned from a Narrative and Technology course I took a few semesters ago, the way a story is presented can be just as (if not more) important than the actual narrative itself. Could the same story have a stronger impact if it’s presented as an audio podcast? Or perhaps a photo essay? A hypertext/interactive piece? I’m hoping to at least get a better understanding of the different types of media that are available to us in our increasingly digitalized world, as well as give a go at the ones that I may have been too afraid to try before.

Here’s to a great semester!
