Maya’s Introduction

posted in: Introductions | 0

Hello! My name is Maya and I’m a Studio Arts major who focuses on digital mediums like photography, graphic design, digital painting, etc. I’m also finishing up the CGS Digital Media certificate (taking my last class for it now). I’m actually not taking this class for the certificate, just as a unique replacement for a standard w-intensive. My interest in Digital Media is primarily as a way to inform my own art as well as how I view other pieces of art and design. I’m also very interested in psychology and sociology, and how technology and digital media come together as a culture.

I am the Production Manager and Lead Graphic Designer for The Pitt News. If you ever see me running around in the 15 minutes between classes, I’m usually trying to lay out part of the paper really quickly before my next class. In my free time (ha) I enjoy art stuff, sleeping, and watching tv and movies. I’m also heavily involved in a few alternative fashion communities. I attend a lot of events related to Lolita Fashion, a modest fancy-dress style that has roots in Japan and is influenced by Victorian and Rococo styles. Basically, I love dressing up in super detailed, fluffy outfits and going out with others to do things like get tea or visit museums. I love horror movies, musicals, and kids movies. My top five movies are probably Phantom of the Opera, The Aristocats, Repo: The Genetic Opera, My Neighbor Totoro, and Perks of Being a Wallflower. Criminal Minds is my all time favorite, but it isn’t a movie sooo…

Anyway, I’m excited for this class and the wide variety of projects described so far. On that note, here is a .gif of my crested gecko, Vimes, licking his eyeball.
