While the street is made up of 15 blocks, I feel like it is a tiny corner that you can use for a lot of different needs, whether that’s going to a show, grabbing some coffee, or eating at a new restaurant.

I chose to do the layout the way that I did because I wanted to go for muted colors and a faded tone since that is what is hip, and the swhole vibe I’m trying to convey with my chosen spot is that the so-called “hipster cool” people go there. I chose a different color for each page because I wanted to differentiate them from each other, but I again, chose similar tones so that there was a sense of continuity among the pages. I went down to East Carson Street with a camera and took my own pictures so I wouldn’t have to look them up, and so that I could exercise my creative juices. I really wanted to incorporate lots of pictures from my own camera so I could show the cool side of East Carson that may not be known by everyone. I also chose to go and take my own pictures so that I could pick and choose which pictures spoke to me the most when showing my little corner. Fun fact: I was by myself when I took the pictures so the one of me smiling with an iced coffee is just a mix of a strategically self-timed photo and a bit of luck since no one was there to actually catch me “smiling” at my iced coffee.

I decided on the fonts that I did (Bebas Neue and Avenir) because I think that the harsh Bebas Neue goes well with the softer Avenir, and I really like the look of those fonts, especially Bebas. I think Bebas always gives a very clean look to things, and I wanted the website to look as modern as possible, despite the html which can sometimes look like a site that’s transported here from 1999. I chose to separate the pages by stores rather than topics like “About” or “History” because I wanted to highlight these places individually. I thought that would be a better way to showcase my favorite parts of the “little corner,” and I wanted to share them with people who may not have known that they were there.

The links that I included were the most reasonable ones to me. I included links to the stores’ websites so that if someone really had never heard of them, but also wanted to learn more than just the brief overview that I provided, they had direct access to the link through my site. I want people to see why East Carson really is a tiny corner of the city that we’re lucky to have, and I hope I was able to do that with my website assignment.

Here’s a link to my site: http://www.pitt.edu/~smh138/omgsocool.html Here is my cover letter about why I decided to do the things I did: My website is centered on a street in Pittsburgh called East Carson Street.
