Unfortunately, if used incorrectly, it can be very obvious that the image was altered in some way, usually in a hilariously bad fashion. This was the case when FOX Sports attempted to photoshop one players head onto another players body, leading to ridicule from around the internet.

First, some background on the situation. The Minnesota Vikings, members of the NFC North division in the NFL, were popular picks to make the playoffs this season, lead by All-Pro running back Adrian Peterson and young quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. Unfortunately for the Vikings, Bridgewater suffered a serious knee injury toward the end of training camp that ended his season prematurely. The Vikings then traded for another quarterback, Sam Bradford of the Philadelphia Eagles. After taking a week to learn the playbook, Bradford was the starting quarterback of the Vikings, and has led to a 5-0 record thus far (despite also losing Peterson to an injury as well).

Some eagle-eyed viewers this past Sunday noticed something odd about a graphic FOX was running to promote the Vikings next game. The image is below.

At first glance, the image doesn’t seem too bad. The photoshop job isn’t terrible, until you realize a few things

Teddy Bridgewater is a very slender quarterback, Bradford is much more stocky and much taller

Bradford does not wear gloves when he plays, Bridgewater does.

The head seems very oversized compared to the body.

Not surprisingly, people noticed the errors right away and had a field day with the jokes. News outlets started picking up the story left and right. People wondered why FOX did not just use an image of Bradford himself, as there are plenty of images of him in a Vikings uniform. The photoshop job was bad enough to catch the attention of the Vikings themselves, who responded with some hilarious (and pretty good) photoshop jobs themselves.

In the end, if there are images that exist of what you are trying to Photoshop, maybe just use those instead and spend your time doing something else.

When used correctly, Photoshop can be a very effective tool that can alter, enhance, and improve photos.
