For my second journal post, I wanted to talk about how the things that we are learning in class have been relevant to me and my ability to gain opportunities for internships and whatnot. I especially wanted to talk about this after I had a conversation with my friend whose cousin works at Business Insider and said that they are always looking for people with after effects experience to animate on their video section.
I wanted to talk about this because sometimes I feel like it can be hard to apply the things done in the classroom to experiences outside of it, but I think that this class falls into a different category than that. I know for some people who study things like biology or math or other things that may not seem immediately applicable, staying motivated in the classroom can be hard to do at times. It can be hard to work for hours on a project or reading a text when you feel like you won’t use this in 2, 6, or 10 years. For us looking to go into the media, however, the story is a bit different.
When we take classes like Composing Digital Media and the like, we are learning things that are imperative to employment opportunities in a number of ways. Companies are looking more and more for people who are well rounded in applications. By learning several softwares and producing content with them over the semester, we are steadily making ourselves more marketable to potential employers looking for people like us.
Additionally, not knowing just any software, but knowing Adobe products is something that we can have as a tangible take-away from this class as well. Through Photoshop, After Effects, Audition in some cases for the Audio Assignment, we have had a chance to get acquainted with a number of industry standard platforms for creation. With that, we can be thankful that these skills we study in class will not only always be relevant, but also fun and inspiring to learn and explore in and outside of the classroom.
