Primarily I decided to take this course because I was interested in the learning how to create quality content for the Internet. That being said, I was most excited to work on expanding my knowledge of web languages and our unit working with HTML was definitely helpful to me. Though my final product for the website assignment was not anything phenomenal (mostly because I didn’t give myself enough time), I thoroughly enjoyed the process. Since then, I’ve decided to completely re-create my website and learn more about HTML and CSS.
When I first began this section of the unit, I assumed that I already had the basic knowledge of HTML/CSS. This was a huge mistake because although I went through some of the suggested tutorials, I didn’t take enough time to make sure I fully understood everything. If I had taken just another day or so of learning the basic framework, I would have benefited immensely. I know this because even looking through the W3Schools HTML and CSS Help pages, I found that it was not always enough to selectively browse. If you’re interested in expanding your skills from this unit, I would recommend going to these pages, and starting from the beginning, read through everything. The most important thing I’ve learned from this semester and especially the HTML unit is that before you can create, you have to make sure you do all of the research. It’s tempting to want to jump right in and hope that things will come together along the way, but it never turns out as good if you don’t have ample time to adjust. At least, that’s what I’ve gathered about my own creative process.
Although I did not meet all of my expectations for this assignment, I’ve decided to continue learning this web language in the hopes of eventually gaining enough skill to make my own website from scratch. Before I try this, I’m going to use our Revision Assignment as a chance to develop those skills more.
