Voice Effects in Audacity

Hey guys! I found this cool tutorial which walks you through some cool effects to do in Audacity! This guy is pretty funny and he goes through the effects step by step so it is easy to understand.

One thing I thought would be pretty useful for our project is how to remove background noise. Since a lot of us don’t have access to expensive and fancy microphones this may be a useful trick to get rid of some of the distractions in the back of your recordings.

Audacity is a lot more straightforward than PhotoShop so a lot of the effects are pretty self explanatory. This tutorial can show you how to make use of some of the effects so your recordings sound clean and professional!

I particularly like the effect he uses to make the recording sound like it is on the radio.

The last effect this tutorial walks through is a special effect. This is a really cool way to make your assignment more theatrical or special. I can see this being used for a reenactment of a scene in your story/conversation or possibly a cool introduction effect.

Above is a link that describes the effects in more detail. This is very useful for anyone who is struggling with their project and wanting to add some more elements to spice it up! It is a pretty lengthy page but I recommend giving it a skim if you have never worked with audacity before! Already I have learned more than I thought I would just looking at the descriptions.

I also recommend checking out more youtube tutorials like the one I shared! These are fun and easy to watch while you work with audacity. Its like having your very own tutor on your computer!

Thanks for the tutorials! I definitely learned a little more about Audacity, which being a complete newbie was really great for me. I agree with you that the learning how to take out background noise was really helpful; I have a feeling I’ll be using that tip for this project. I also liked learning about some of the different effects that you can incorporate using Audacity, like equalization.
